Fantastic Start To The School Year!

Posted Date: 10/02/26 (03:00 PM)

Dear Wilkes Elementary Families,

As we move into October, I want to take a moment to celebrate the strong start to our school year. I am overwhelmed with joy to see students forming new friendships, becoming part of a supportive learning community, and growing as scholars with the help of our amazing teachers and support staff.

Our students are doing a wonderful job following our PBIS model of caring for ourselves, caring for others, and caring for our school. Every day, we see them making kind choices, helping one another, and being responsible and safe. These positive behaviors is creating a calm, warm, respectful environment where more learning can take place.

With classroom routines established and learning underway, we are building systems of support to ensure the success of every student. In September, all students were assessed in both literacy and math to identify strengths and areas for growth. Teachers are using these results to design a program that meets your child's needs. These plans may include additional support from classroom teachers, reading specialists, or other support staff. We are excited to see the growth your child will make this year.

I also want to remind families about the importance of arriving on time. Students should be at school by 7:45 AM Tuesday through Friday and by 8:55 AM on Monday late starts. We want every student to begin the morning with their classroom community, and arriving late can disrupt your child's start to the day. If your child arrives late, please remember that a parent or guardian must sign them with the front office after 7:50 AM.

Finally, as the weather begins to become more crisper, here in the Northwest that means the rain is coming. Please be sure your child comes prepared with a rain or winter jacket for outdoor recess (with their name written inside of course). Remember, we go outside rain or shine!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
